Glenmorangie Ealanta Private Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl
The 4th release in their Private Edition range, the Ealanta is a 19 year old whisky that has been entirely matured in heavily charred new American oak for some intense, but well matured oak influences. Ealanta means 'skilled and ingenious' in Gaelic, and the whisky certainly proves this of its creators, being full of vanilla and oaky spices, but balancing well against a nutty quality and citrus peels so it doesn't feel overpowered by the wood.
Tasting Notes
Nose – Toffee, butterscotch, vanilla, and a curious hint of stewed fruits. Classic Glenmorangie mentholic top-note, interwoven with an unusual nuttiness, reminiscent of Brazil nuts in toffee.
Palate – Candied orange peel, sugar coated almonds, sweet vanilla and marzipan.
Finish – The taste goes on and on, finally giving way to some oak-derived spices - clove, ginger and a hint of aniseed.
